Saint John swimmers capture 31 medals

SAINT JOHN - Swimmers with the Saint John Fundy Swim Club picked up 31 medals at the New Brunswick short-course swimming championships.

Daniel Johnston took home four gold medals with victories in the 400-metre freestyle, 1,500-m freestyle, 100-m individual medley and the 200-m individual medley.

He added a silver medal in the 200-m freestyle in the boys 12-and-under class during the event, held earlier this month in Moncton.

Reid Burrows of Saint John won six medals in the boys 13-14 year-old division. That total included silvers in the 50-m freestyle, 800-m freestyle, 100-m butterfly and the 200-m butterfly, which was in the 14-and-under class.

He also won bronze in the 100-m freestyle and the 50-m butterfly.

Olivia Gauthier claimed gold in the 200-m breast stroke and the 200-m individual medley as well as a silver in the 50-m butterfly and a bronze in the 100-m freestyle.

She raced in the 12-and-under girls division.

Amye Harrigan also won four medals, with a gold in the 200-m freestyle in the 17-and-over division. She won silver in the 200-m freestyle and bronze medals in the 50-m freestyle and the 100-m butterfly.

Justine Gauthier picked up three medals in the 15-16 girls division. She won a silver in the 400-m freestyle and bronze medals in the 100- and 200-m freestyle.

Leanne Sluyter captured two golds - in the 100-m individual medley in the 13-14 girls race and the 1,500-m freestyle in the girls 15-16 class.

Alex Pantic earned a gold in the 100-m butterfly and a silver in the 800-m freestyle in the boys 15-16 division.

Alex Gauthier won a silver in the 1,500-m freestyle and a bronze in the 50-m breast stroke in the 15-16 boys class while Lindsay Clifford earned a silver in the 400-m individual medley and a bronze in the 200-m individual medley in the girls 17-and-over class.

Blaire Magee took the other medal with a bronze in the 50-m butterfly in the boys 12-and-under class.

Saint John finished with 188 points, good for eighth place overall. Edmundston won the overall team title with 557 points.
